Artist's Description

Ever round a corner and instantly see a wonderful shot? This was it. The sun was just above the rooftops, casting a beautiful golden glow down on the stone street, surrounded by old Japanese buildings.

Kyoto is an immensely interesting city; it's a place where you can see back a few hundred years and see the future all at the same time. It is a city of Maiko, electronics, shrines, temples, shopping malls, and bamboo forests.

Kyoto is one of the only cities in Japan that wasn't burned to the ground during World War II. It was on the short list to be a target for an atomic bomb, but was taken off after it was deemed to not have enough military significance. As a result, it is a rare city in which you can see actual buildings and temples from before 1945.

I would say that if you could only see one city in Japan, this would be it.

About Brad Brizek

Brad Brizek

Welcome! I'm originally from the southeast corner of Pennsylvania (just above Amish country), but I've traveled a good bit of the planet. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona. I've been taking photos since 2006 and have been refining my style ever since. I have a particular passion for landscape, architectural, and transportation themes, although I've been known to do abstracts from time to time. If you like what you see, please come back regularly as I upload new shots all the time. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll find something that interests you!
