It is incredible what the human mind can come up with. I was always fascinated by steam locomotives as a kid and that fascination continues. Perhaps it has something to do with the machine appearing to be alive. They tick and groan and hiss. All of their machinery is on display, unlike most modern vehicles.
This is the running gear for Ex-Norfolk and Western Mastodon Number 475 at the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania. She might not be as strong as a modern locomotive, but something about those massive wheels being tied together with a giant piece of steel just exudes power.
