Description
This is Lake Towada in an area of northern Japan called Tohoku. The vast expanse of water is actually a large caldera, or a collapsed volcano. The lake is kept full by heavy snows in the winter, but is a beautiful subject year round.
This was a late fall shot at the end of a long day shooting the fall colors of nearby Oirase Gorge. As the light faded away from the gorge, I raced up to the lake to see if I could catch any magic happening as the sun went down. The sunset was nice, but I especially liked the twilight period afterwards.
