Description
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is the seventh studio album by English singer-musician Elton John, released 5 October 1973 as a double LP by MCA Records in the USA. I has sold over 30 million copies world wide and is considered Elton John’s crowning achievement. Among the seventeen tracks the album produced six hit singles including the title track, “Candle in the Wind”, “Bennie and the Jets”, “Harmony”, “Funeral for a Friend/Love lies Bleeding” and “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”. Bernie Taupin wrote all the lyrics in 2.5 weeks and Elton John composed most of the music in three days. Recording took two weeks at the Chateau d’Heroville in France using a 16 track tape recorder.
In 2020 the album was ranked 112 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2003 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
