This is, once again, the Emperor's residence in Kyoto, Japan. Even though the buildings are made of wood and they are nowhere as intricate as the ruins of Western civilization, old structures in Japan just seem to fit together effortlessly. The wooden beams and tiles are fit precisely to give the building a sort of understated elegance.
The idea of simplistic beauty is one that I've found alive and well in Japan. No need for massive statues or super detailed carvings. Simple geometric shapes that please the eye and have beautiful, clean lines do spectacularly...
