This is the famous Miyajima floating torii gate at sunset. The tide here goes in and out quite dramatically. A few hours before, you could walk underneath the gate, which is fifty feet tall!
This gate is on a small island across the bay from Hiroshima, Japan. If you go, enjoy the views, just watch out for the deer! They are everywhere on the island! And... they are not afraid of people.
The torii gate sits next to an old shrine/temple which is also built on stilts to let the rising tide pass beneath it. If you're going to go, I'd recommend the late afternoon. Just after sunset they light the orange torii gate up against a backdrop of the night sky and the suburbs of Hiroshima.
But I'm a sucker for silhouettes, as you can see!
