Description
This is the final landing of a USAF F-4 Phantom II at Holloman Air Force Base, just outside of Alamogordo, NM on December 26th, 2016. I was fortunate enough to have a flight line photo pass and Public Affairs was kind enough to let me tag along as they went out to videotape the final flight. A flight of four QF-4s took off and, after doing a pass over the field in formation, they departed to the north. We waited for their arrival, which was announced by four very loud booms as they went supersonic over the base (which is allowed, in case you're wondering).
I took a whole bunch of shots as the four aircraft did practice approaches for the crowd on the opposite side of the runway. This is one of the last of those, piloted by Lt Col Ronald "Elvis" King, who was the last Active Duty Air Force pilot checked out in the F-4. It was a grey, overcast day, but I think that was just the weather's way of saying goodbye to a legend of an airplane.
