Description
These are the ruins of the Temple of Vesta in Rome, Italy. The ruins are located near the Roman Forum, which was sort of like the "downtown" district of ancient Rome. The area had many temples, business places, and government buildings.
If you've studied a bit about ancient Rome (or have seen the movie "History of the World Part I), the name "Vesta" might sound a bit familiar for some reason. That's because it served as the house of the "Vestal Virgins." These were women who were not obligated to bear children (as most other women were at the time) and tended to the temple and a fire inside that was not permitted to be extinguished. They took a vow of chastity and, oh yeah, no men were allowed in the temple.
