Artist's Description

Probably my favorite thing about shooting abstracts is that the final result doesn't have to resemble the subject that I'm shooting. For instance, to me, this looks like a jet of water splashing up after hitting the ground. In reality, the water in this shot isn't moving at all.

No, there's no strobe flash or super-fast shutter speed. This is ice.

In the winter, Oirase Gorge in northern Japan almost completely ices over. Some of these icicles reach over 20 feet long! As the waterfalls freeze, they leave a solid representation of flowing water splashing off the rocks below.

I thought the impact area looked so much like it was still moving that I decided to take this shot. A bit of nature's movement and turmoil, frozen in time.

About Brad Brizek

Brad Brizek

Welcome! I'm originally from the southeast corner of Pennsylvania (just above Amish country), but I've traveled a good bit of the planet. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona. I've been taking photos since 2006 and have been refining my style ever since. I have a particular passion for landscape, architectural, and transportation themes, although I've been known to do abstracts from time to time. If you like what you see, please come back regularly as I upload new shots all the time. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll find something that interests you!
